Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Black & White Academy Ltd

Fair access, respect and inclusive learning

Our Commitment

Black & White Academy Ltd is committed to treating learners, staff, clients and partners fairly and with dignity. We value different backgrounds, cultures, identities, abilities, experiences and perspectives. Our education includes hair and beauty subjects across hair types and cultural histories, and we aim to deliver this learning respectfully and accurately.

Scope

This policy applies to academy learning activities, course enquiries, enrolment, teaching, assessment, student support, online learning and interactions with staff, learners and partner venues.

Fair Treatment

We do not tolerate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation, bullying or degrading treatment. Decisions about access, participation, assessment and support should be based on relevant criteria and applied fairly. Concerns will be considered promptly and sensitively.

Accessibility & Reasonable Adjustments

Learners can tell us about disability, learning needs or other barriers that may affect participation. We will discuss reasonable adjustments and accessible ways to take part, while maintaining legitimate course and assessment requirements and safety.

Cultural Respect in Teaching

Teaching should recognise the diversity of hair textures, skin types, cultural practices and histories. Staff and learners should use respectful language, avoid stereotypes and treat lived experiences with care. Discriminatory comments or conduct should be raised with the tutor or academy contact.

Responsibilities

Staff and tutors are expected to model respectful behaviour and respond appropriately to concerns. Learners are expected to respect others, follow the learner code of conduct and avoid discriminatory or abusive behaviour.

Raising a Concern

A learner or other person can raise an equality or inclusion concern with the tutor or academy contact. Complaints will be handled under the academy's Complaints and Appeals Policy. No one should be treated unfairly for raising a concern in good faith.
