Health & Safety
Black & White Academy Ltd
Practical training, salon education and mobile delivery
Our Commitment
Black & White Academy Ltd aims to provide learning and training in a safe, clean and respectful environment. Health and safety arrangements apply to academy activities, including practical hairdressing, hair extension and trichology education delivered at academy, college, salon or other agreed venues.
Before Training
Relevant hazards should be identified and proportionate risk assessments completed before activities begin. Tutors should explain the venue's emergency arrangements, safe working practices and any course-specific risks. Learners must follow instructions, use equipment only as directed and tell the tutor about hazards, accidents or near misses.
Practical Work & Equipment
Equipment must be suitable for the activity and checked before use. Electrical tools, heated appliances, sharp tools, products and chemicals must be handled according to training, manufacturer instructions and relevant safety information. Keep work areas tidy, clean and ventilated as appropriate. Use suitable protective equipment where the assessment of risk requires it.
Hygiene & Infection Prevention
Learners and tutors should follow appropriate hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection procedures. Tools and workstations should be cleaned between users where appropriate. Any blood spill, injury or contamination must be managed safely using the venue's procedures.
Allergies, Sensitivities & Health Needs
Learners should tell the academy before training about relevant access needs, allergies or health considerations they choose to disclose, so reasonable and safe arrangements can be discussed. Product testing and use must follow the product instructions and applicable professional guidance.
Accidents & Emergencies
Report accidents, injuries, near misses and unsafe conditions to the tutor or venue contact promptly. Follow the venue's fire, evacuation and emergency procedures.
If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical assistance, contact the emergency services on 999. Do not put yourself or others at risk.
Responsibilities
Tutors should communicate relevant safety instructions and stop an activity if it appears unsafe. Learners must behave responsibly, follow instructions and avoid conduct that endangers others. Where training takes place at a partner venue, the academy and venue should clarify relevant responsibilities before the course.
